Pressure Vessel Design Verification & Registration

What we do

  • Independent Design Verification (IDV) to AS 1210 and nominated standards
  • Hazard Level Assessment to AS 4343 (HL A–E)
  • Design Registration lodgement with the relevant regulator
  • Item Registration coordination (where required)

Standards & Codes

  • AS 3920 – Pressure Equipment-Conformity assessment
  • AS/NZS 1200 – Pressure Equipment
  • AS 1210 – Pressure Vessel Design Code
  • AS 4343 – Hazard Levels

Why choose PL Engineering

  • Chartered Mechanical Engineer (MIEAust CPEng APEC Engineer IntPE , NER, RPEQ, RPEV) with ~20 years’ experience.
  • National coverage: VIC, NSW, QLD, SA, TAS, WA & Comcare
  • Regulator‑ready documentation & faster approvals

How it works

1) Kick‑off & Inputs

P&IDs, drawings, loads, materials, code edition, NDE/PWHT, relief basis.

2) Hazard Level (AS 4343)

Fluid/inventory/pressure/temperature → HL A–E (A–D typically register).

3) Independent Verification

Re‑checks for thickness, nozzles, flanges, supports, MDMT, buckling, relief.

4) Registration Pack

Verification report, declaration, calculations, drawings, relief device data.

Regulator coverage

  • VIC: WorkSafe Victoria – Design verification declaration & registration
  • NSW: SafeWork NSW – Design & item registration
  • QLD: WorkSafe QLD – Plant design registration
  • SA: SafeWork SA – Pressure vessel design application
  • TAS: WorkSafe Tasmania – PRF1 (design) & PRF4 (item)
  • WA: DMIRS / WorkSafe WA – Item registration
  • Comcare: Commonwealth – Plant design & item registration
  • National standards: AS 1210, AS 4343, AS/NZS 1200, AS 3788

Tip: WHS jurisdictions generally require both design registration (before manufacture/supply) and item registration (before use). Victoria’s framework differs for item registration—check the regulator page.

Typical registration pack

  • AS 4343 hazard level calculation
  • Verified thickness/nozzle/flange/support calculations
  • GA & fabrication drawings, nozzle schedules
  • Relief device basis & datasheets
  • Material lists (MTCs if available)
  • Welding/NDE/PWHT specifications & acceptance criteria
  • Independent verification report & declaration

Why PL Engineering?

  • Independent third‑party verification trusted by regulators
  • Deep domain expertise in water, wastewater, oil & gas, energy
  • Clear timelines and single point of contact
  • Commissioning handover packs aligned to AS 3788

FAQs

Which vessels must be design‑registered?

Any pressure equipment (not piping) with AS 4343 hazard level A–D. HL-E is typically exempt from design registration but still subject to general plant safety duties.

Do we need item registration as well?

In WHS jurisdictions (NSW/QLD/SA/TAS/WA/Comcare): Yes—before use. In Victoria, the framework is different; confirm obligations with WorkSafe VIC guidance for plant.

How is hazard level decided?

Per AS 4343, using fluid, inventory, pressure, temperature and consequence criteria—yielding HL A (highest) to E (lowest). Registration usually applies to A–D.
